Abbazia di San Giorgio Maggiore

The Abbazia di San Giorgio Maggiore stands on the small island of San Giorgio in front of Piazza San Marco in Venice.
Built in the 16th century and designed by the renowned Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio, the church is a masterpiece of classical harmony and symmetry. Its luminous white marble façade rises above the lagoon, while the adjoining Benedictine monastery has been an important religious and cultural center for centuries.
Inside, the basilica houses notable artworks, including paintings by Tintoretto.
The nearby bell tower offers one of the most spectacular panoramic views of Venice and its lagoon.
